The key strokes are soft and it's easy to operate. If I HAD to change something about the machine it would be the font on the print out. It's not as easy to read as previous Canon machines we've had. It is important to us to have the same, or very similar, machines through out the office, as we are invariably at someone elses desk when a call comes in to "calculate" something for a customer. We tried one of the 1400 series machines and found it to be complicated in that the "sleep" function was annoying and to clear out previous totals was near impossible. (Yes, we read the instructions) Living in a small town we have limited resources. It's not unusual to hear "they don't make that anymore" when shopping here. So, I was thrilled to find the same brand and model calculator we use throughout the office through Amazon. Our tax adviser wanted the replacement to feel and have the same key layout as her old calculator. She is happy about the way this one feels and works, also it has a larger display then the older model. That does make it a little easier to read when we are tired. We were a little concerned with the way the paper roll is held verses the older calculators method. The older calculator has 2 plastic spring loaded arms and the photos showed a bent wire holder on this new unit. That holder looks flimsy in the pictures, but in real life it is extremely sturdy, probable stronger then the plastic arms on the older calculator. It has many useful features like tape printout, with red ink for negative amounts and black ink for positive amounts; a large "plus" key, since it is the one used most frequently; Easy to read blue/green numbers on a black background; options for a specified number of decimal places; etc. With this type of calculator, you can perform most basic mathematical functions with ease. The placement of the keys (and their large size), makes it easy for those who are proficient at using a ten- key calculator. And if you make a mistake, it is easy to spot the error thanks to the tape backup. On the negative side, this calculator is too simplistic for any type of advanced or semi- advanced math. There is no square root key, exponent key, or anything like that. You can add, subtract, multiply, divide, and create percentage functions. My eyesight isn't what it used to be. And the display is great. The manual, however, is awful. It is in many languages. The print is small and what it says is not very informative. It does show samples. If you are used to this type of machine, it is probably adequate, but I'm not. I have been able to use it, but I haven't had the patience to learn all the things it can do. Also they only include a tiny roll of paper. This product does meet the basic published specifications. However, the "details" should cause the potential buyer to look at some other product. To date, the key functions have been found to be counter-intuitive by five different people. The User Manual is worse than terrible. The support telephone number leads you into a maize that ends with a request for a chargeable credit card. No on-line support for this model could be found at the Casio web site. And the crowning detail is that the printer output lines cannot be read until about five "lines" after each line is printed. The only good feature of this calculator is the ease of paper loading. This is a good feature because you will be probably be using about 4 times as much paper than with any other printing calculator.
